Campground Details - Quail Creek State Park, UT

Description

Boasting some of the warmest waters in the state and a mild winter climate, Quail Creek Reservoir lures boaters and anglers year-round. Spend a day on the water or visit a nearby state or national park, then retire to a campsite in a spectacular red rock desert setting.

Geography:

Quail Creek reservoir was completed in 1985 to provide irrigation and culinary water to the St. George area. Most of the water in the reservoir does not come from Quail Creek, but is diverted from the Virgin River and transported through a buried pipeline. Two dams form the reservoir. The main dam is an earthfill embankment dam. The south dam is a roller compacted concrete dam, constructed to replace the original earthfill dam that failed in the early hours of New Year's Day 1989. The maximum depth of Quail Creek can reach 120 feet, so it is cold enough to sustain the stocked rainbow trout, bullhead catfish, and crappie. Largemouth bass, which are also stocked, and bluegill thrive in the warmer, upper layers of the reservoir.

Quail Creek State Park provides excellent year-round camping, picnicking, boating, and trout and bass fishing in sunny southwest Utah.

Alerts and Important Information

Park hours are from 7 am to 9 pm. With the gate closed from 9 pm to 7 am. year round.
Quail Creek enforces a 40-boat limit on the reservoir.
No shower facilities are available.
No overnight group sites. The park has two pavilions which are first-come, first-served.
Closest boat and personal watercraft rentals are available in Hurricane and St. George.
Park hours from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Weekday boat ramp access from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Weekend boat ramp access from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., through October. Hours subject to change depending on weather and available staff.

From Interstate 15 take Exit 16 (Hurricane) and travel three miles east on State Road 9, then turn left on State Road 318, and follow the road along the lake to the park.
