Description

Towering 2,000 feet directly above the Colorado River, Dead Horse Point State Park provides a breathtaking panorama of the sculptured pinnacles and buttes of Canyonlands National Park.

Geography:

Millions of years of geologic activity created the spectacular views from Dead Horse Point State Park. Deposition of sediments by ancient oceans, freshwater lakes, streams and wind blown sand dunes created the rock layers of canyon country. Igneous activity formed the high mountains that rise like cool blue islands out of the hot, dry desert.

Recreation:

Customers enjoy Dead Horse Point’s many hiking and mountain bike trails. Photography, nature study, geology, wildlife viewing, and summer evening programs are a hit with visitors to this beautiful park.

Facilities:

A visitor center offers information on the history, geology, and biology of the area. There is a yurt area:

Moenkopi Yurts: Located in a secluded cul-de-sac near the park entrance, these five yurts are complete with a bunk bed, futon bed, tables (indoors and outdoors), AC/heater units, lamps, grills, and fire pits. Smoking, and cooking is not allowed inside the yurts. There are no EV charging stations for yurt occupants at this time, and extension cords may not be used. Fast charging stations are available in Lions Park in the City of Moab. A maximum of two dogs are allowed inside the Moenkopi yurts for a separate pet fee. No other pets are allowed. Tent and trailer/RV camping is not allowed by the yurts.

Nearby Attractions:

The park is 32 miles from the city of Moab. Within driving distance to Canyonlands and Arches National Parks as well as many biking and four-wheeling destinations.
