Overview
Description

With its warm blue waters and red sandstone landscape, one of Utah’s newer state parks is also one of the most visited. You can boat and fish on the reservoir or explore the dunes of Sand Mountain on an off-road vehicle. After an adventure filled day, camp in one of the four campgrounds that Sand Hollow State Park has to offer. The facilities within the campgrounds offer a range from full hookup sites to dry dispersed camping to fit anyone’s needs.

Geography:

Sand Hollow State Park gives direct access to over 15,000 acres of perfectly sculpted dunes on Sand Mountain. You can access this favorite destination of OHV enthusiasts on the south side of the park via the tunnel that goes underneath SR-7. The reservoir which stays above 65 degrees a majority of the year offers recreational activities for water sport enthusiasts and fishermen alike. Nearby state and federal parks offer access to some of Southern Utah’s most scenic views.

Recreation:

Sand Hollow State Park offers over 1,322 acres on the reservoir for boaters, paddleboarders, divers and more. Enjoy the thrill of wakeboarding or wake surfing behind a sport boat or find gentler waters around the redrock islands to test your luck (and bait type) against different species of fish. The reservoir houses largemouth bass, green sunfish, and bluegill. Sand Mountain on the south side of the park offers over 15,000 acres of off roading trails ranging from beginner trails to technically challenging feats. Test your luck and your limits on sand dunes and rock scrambles that overlook the incredible view of Sand Hollow Reservoir. If you want to bring along your four legged friends, Sand Hollow does allow dogs as long as they are always supervised and on a leash. The park is also equestrian friendly, bring your horses to enjoy the waters or beaches of Sand Hollow. If adventuring is not your style and you’re more of a lounging on vacation kind of person, enjoy our long stretch of sandy beach access and picnic tables. Depending on the time of year and water levels, test your skills at our seasonal disc-golf course. Lastly, Sand Hollow is in Hurricane UT. The name is appropriate with the consistent wind the park gets. Bring your kites or your wind foils and have a blast on the beach and in the lake!

Facilities:

Sand Hollow State Park has five top of the line campgrounds. The Westside Campground has full hookup sites (water, electric and sewer). It is located on the northwest side of the reservoir. It is the closest campground to the boat ramp. Lakeview Campground has a combination of sites; both full hookup and partial hookup (water and electric) sites are available. Partial hookup sites do not include sewer. The majority of the Lakeview Campground is full of partial hookup sites. There is a dump station near the Westside Campground for the convenience of our campers in Lakeview Campground. Closest to the action of the OHV Staging Area and tunnel towards Sand Mountain is our Sandpit Campground. Sandpit Campground offers the widest variety of sites; it also includes all of the group sites within the park. Sandpit A-E are “large group sites” and can accommodate up to 12 vehicles These are dry sites, offering fire rings picnic tables and shade structures, but do not have hookup amenities. Sites 7 10 11 12 13 and 15 are small group sites. Sites 1 2 3 4 5 8 9 10 11 are partial hookup sites. The rest of the Sandpit Campground consists of standard dry sites. Beachside Campground is our newest campground, offering lakefront access on the south end of the reservoir. These sites are full hookup sites (water, electric and sewer). As of right now the three sites in Beachside Campground are walk-in only; you cannot reserve them ahead of time online. The campground also houses the park's two cottages that are reservable online up to four months in advance. Each cottage includes a full hookup RV campsite, picnic table and fire ring. Each cottage can sleep up to six people. There is a two night minimum reservation policy. Both cottages have heating and air conditioning and other amenities that you can find online on the Sand Hollow State Park website or under the cottages tab on ReserveAmerica. Cottage 1 is pet friendly and Cottage 2 is ADA accessible. The last campground at Sand Hollow State Park is the Primitive Campground. It is a dry dispersed campground. NO hookups or amenities are available in the Primitive Campground, except one vault (CXT) toilet. Westside, Lakeview, Sandpit and Beachside allow for extra vehicles in all of the sites, with an additional nightly cost. Primitive Campground does not allow extra vehicles. Westside, Lakeview and Sandpit all have shower facilities in their campgrounds. Beachside and Primitive do not include shower facilities. There are shower passes available for sale at the Visitor Center
